About this programme

Description

The Certified Energy Auditor (CEA™) programme raises the standards in energy auditing for professionals performing auditing services at industrial plants and buildings, and improves the practice of energy auditors through a continuing education programme.

CEA™ is an international qualification programme for professionals developed by the US-based Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). CEA offers a comprehensive learning forum for those who want to provide energy auditing services in industrial plants and buildings. Passing the examination could lead to international certification with the AEE.

Steps to Certification

  1. Attend the CEA™ training course with an AEE approved training partner.
  2. Write the CEA™ examination and attain a 70%+ pass mark.
  3. Complete your CEA™ Certification application and return it to your training provider timeously.
  4. The local and international CEA™ Board will review your application.
  5. Your training provider will advise you of the Board's decision.
  6. If you receive CEAIT (in-training) status, you may re-apply for certification within 3 years.

Outcomes

On completion of the CEA™ course, you will be able to perform energy auditing tasks for any resources according to best practice standards and international norms.

Delegate Profile

There are no pre-requisites to attend the training course — it is open to all interested parties. Pre-requisites only apply when a candidate wishes to write the examination and apply for international certification. Ideal for:

  • Persons with energy auditing and energy management experience seeking a recognised qualification
  • Energy auditors, architects, built environment, engineering, and environmental graduates
  • Those seeking recognition as a green building specialist internationally
  • Professionals who need to stay current with the latest energy auditing developments
  • Persons that need to find ways of saving energy and resources in any industry

Basic Skill Requirements

Basic problem-solving skills, including quick and accurate use of a hand calculator, the ability to use basic algebra, and to set up problem solution expressions and calculations from a written problem statement.

Examination

A 4-hour voluntary examination may be written on the next day or a later date, subject to pre-application and registration. Pre-registration and 85%+ attendance of class-based training are required. There is no obligation to write the exam on the last day — an alternative examination day may be registered for within three years of attending the course.

Should you fail the examination, you may register for a rewrite within three years of the training. Rewrites must be written at least 60 days apart.

All delegates attending more than 85% of the CEA® training course will receive a certificate of attendance with ECSA CPD credits.
